Public Citizen leads 54 global groups in a letter to European Parliament in defense of the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CS3D)
On 30 June, 2025, Public Citizen sent a letter to members of the European Parliament in defense of a strong Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CS3D). The letter was signed by 54 civil society organizations (CSOs), universities, businesses, and investor groups from the United States, Canada, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and various Latin American countries.
A year after the European Union’s Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CS3D) came into force, aggressive corporate lobbying by the American Chamber of Commerce to the European Union, threats from the Trump administration, and concerns from Republican members of Congress led to an EU Omnibus proposal to drastically weaken and reduce the scope of the legislation.
This will have clear and profound implications for businesses, communities, and efforts to avoid the worst impacts of the climate crisis.
