Our complaint that Griddy concealed its affiliation with Macquarie

On February 26, 2021, Public Citizen filed a protest with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission that the market-based rate application of Griddy concealed the company’s affiliation with the financial firm Macquarie Group. Griddy is infamous for selling retail electricity contracts to thousands of Texans that exposed them to bills exceeding $10,000 for just a day or two of energy. Macquarie is one of the largest energy traders in North America, and boasted that its trading strategies provided a $215 million profit bump during the handful of days of the Texas energy crisis.
