On November 22, 2021, the National Institutes of Health responded to Public Citizen’s letter urging the NIH to clarify the role of the agency in the invention of the vaccine. Public Citizen had identified that Moderna had denied the NIH’s request to name federal scientists as co-inventors on a key patent application for mRNA-1273, the coronavirus vaccine. The New York Times covered the NIH-Moderna dispute.
