Voting Rights Intern

Promote the Vote!

2022 is a very important election year in the United States with key races and ballot initiatives happening in Michigan, including the Promote the Vote ballot initiative to strengthen and protect voting rights. (A ballot initiative is a bill that citizens vote on directly).

This is a critical moment for our democracy – especially in Michigan, and we must make sure that all Americans are able to make our voices heard.

We are looking for Campus Leaders to organize with us in Michigan to 1. Educate students and the general public about the Promote the Vote ballot initiative. 2. Help make sure students are registered to vote and participate in the 2022 general election. (Don’t worry if this would be your first time organizing, we provide training and support!)

Responsibilities:

You’ll be working closely with our campaign leaders and state-based organizations to support voter education and engagement around the Promote the Vote Ballot initiative and help make sure students and community members get out and vote.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Educating students about the ballot initiative, helping students register to vote, and sharing opportunities to help as poll workers and election protection volunteers.
  • Distributing information on the ballot initiative as well as voting information on your campuses and gathering pledges to vote.
  • Reaching out to professors, your campus administration, student government, campus media and other student leadership to ask for their assistance in getting voter information out to students.
  • Engaging in community activities to spread the word about the ballot initiative, including passing out materials and talking to voters and participating in press events and rallies.
  • Helping to organize a statewide training for voters and volunteers.
  • Reaching out to Michigan voters about the ballot initiative directly.
  • Collaborating with organizations on your campus to conduct these activities.
  • Conducting social media and online outreach to build campaign visibility and assisting with press outreach and events.
  • Working 12-15 hours/week on these activities.

This is a chance to truly play an active role in making an impact in our nation’s history!

To Apply:

Our campus program will run from August through the general election on November 8.
