What Change and Accountability Must Look Like After MAGA’s Colossal Defeat

Issue-Specific Analysis Available

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Following a historic midterm election defeat for Trump’s corrupt and authoritarian agenda, Public Citizen co-presidents Robert Weissman and Lisa Gilbert are available to discuss what concrete changes must be implemented across a wide range of policy areas to deliver what the American people voted for. Public Citizen is calling for a combination of strong oversight and concrete policy to set the agenda for both Trump and corporate accountability over the next two years.

“The unprecedented corruption Trump has put on display over the past couple of years has been a despicable stain on our country,” said Lisa Gilbert, co-president of Public Citizen, adding: “the incoming Congress has been entrusted by the American people to provide accountability and put an end to this President’s lawlessness and gift, and they must not drop this ball. They owe it to our sacred democracy and to future generations who will ask what we did in this moment.”

“Powerful corporate interests and billionaires spent big on the election and lost,” said Robert Weissman, co-president of Public Citizen, “Now Americans expect to see the new Congress investigate and legislate on the very agenda those interests fear. That means investigating the corruption nexus between corporations and the Trump administration. And it means passing legislation to expand health care, lower energy prices, control AI corporations, slash drug prices, address the climate crisis and much more.”

Gilbert, Weissman and other Public Citizen experts are available to discuss the post-election landscape for: democracy, money in politics, health care, drug pricing, energy costs, climate, AI, corporate power, Pentagon spending, appropriations, oversight and more.
