U.S.Senate Puts Safety First, Passes Landmark Consumer Bill
Statement of David Arkush, Director, Public Citizen’s Congress Watch Division
Today, the U.S. Senate followed the lead of its colleagues in the House of Representatives and passed the landmark Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act, a sweeping piece of legislation that takes important steps toward keeping Americans safe from products that could harm or kill them.
The overwhelming support the bill received in Congress sends a strong message that protecting American consumers is above partisan politics. Now, we urge President Bush to show the same commitment to consumer safety and quickly sign this measure into law.
After suffering through the most dangerous year for consumers in this country’s history, American children and families finally have reason to hope that better days are ahead.
