Turn up the heat on your representative this summer

This week, my colleague Rick Claypool and I finished up our summer webinar series by going over tips and tricks for dropping in on your representative while Congress is home for the month-long recess in August.

You can view all three presentations in the series here. The video from Wednesday, July 31 is embedded below:

August is the perfect time to drop in on a congressional office and get some face time with your representative and his or her staff. Members of Congress hear from Public Citizen’s Congress Watch advocates on Capitol Hill 11 months out of the year, but during the summer they head back to their districts to get an earful from their constituents.

Right now we need your help to urge your representative to co-sponsor these important pieces of public interest legislation: the Wall Street Trading and Speculators Tax Act, the Arbitration Fairness Act, the Shareholder Protection Act and the Expanded and Improved Medicare For All Act.

It sounds like a tall order, but it’s easier to do than you think.

The simplest way to get involved is to sign up to receive a lobbying packet from us in the mail. If you sign up, you can expect to receive your packet during the week of August 5th. But sign up soon, because we have a limited number of packets to send.

Inside your packet you’ll find easy to follow instructions (and some helpful pointers) for dropping in on your member of Congress. You’ll also find fact sheets explaining the legislation we want your representative to co-sponsor and a cover letter for you to sign to tie it all together. For more details, be sure to check out the presentation above.

If you choose to participate, I want to make sure you know how grateful we are. This “above and beyond” action speaks volumes about how passionate and dedicated Public Citizen’s activists are. We really appreciate it.

A quick visit with your representative or his or her staff is a great way to bolster support from members who already agree with us on the issues, and also a good way to convince those members who might not be inclined to agree with us, by showing them that there is real passion, factual support, and constituent support for our policy proposals.

Let’s make sure bankers and CEOs aren’t the only people our representatives hear from this summer.

Sign up today to get your Public Citizen lobbying packet in the mail.
