Trump’s Refusal To Comply with Ethics Requirements Calls For Immediate Action by Attorney General and Office of Government Ethics

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, Public Citizen submitted a complaint to Attorney General Garland and Office of Government Ethics (OGE) Acting Director Finlayson about the Trump transition team’s negligence in complying with basic ethics requirements.

The complaint urges the Department of Justice and OGE to direct the Trump transition team to immediately comply with ethics requirements and, if these directives are not followed, enforce the law.

“Donald Trump’s refusal to address his massive conflicts of interest is not only unethical — it is unlawful,” said Craig Holman, government ethics expert with Public Citizen. “His negligence not only impacts his own transition process, but jeopardizes the entire incoming administration’s access to critical resources and national security information. The Department of Justice and Office of Government Ethics must act now to ensure a safe transition and affirm that nobody, not even a president-elect, is above the law.”
