Trump’s DOJ Indicts SPLC In ‘Craven Attempt to Silence Dissent’
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Donald Trump’s Department of Justice has indicted the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC), accusing the organization of funding the extremist groups that they have actually been exposing and combatting for decades.
In response to the indictment, Public Citizen co-president Lisa Gilbert issued the following statement:
“Trump and his DOJ’s villainous targeting of the Southern Poverty Law Center is yet another example of the dangerous, overreaching abuse of executive power so endemic in this authoritarian administration.
“This is a craven attempt to silence dissent by attacking a core civil rights organization focused on combatting violent extremism. We condemn this appalling move from a captured, weak-willed DOJ that is devoid of integrity and has lost sight of its mission under this administration. We stand in solidarity with SPLC. “
