Trump ‘Illegal Shakedown’ Is Sabotaging Northeast States’ Wind Energy, Advancing Gas Pipelines

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Trump administration has ordered a complete halt on ‘Revolution Wind,’ a nearly-completed wind farm project off the coast of Rhode Island, in the latest authoritarian assault on renewable energy. Earlier this year, the Trump administration impeded another $5 billion wind farm in New York, reportedly allowing it to proceed ”only after [New York governor] Hochul agreed to approve new gas pipelines in the state.”

In response to the halting of Revolution Wind, Tyson Slocum, Energy Program director at Public Citizen, issued the following statement:

“The Trump administration’s lawless campaign to shakedown elected officials in New England and New York to coerce them into supporting two new unneeded natural gas pipelines continues with his unwarranted stop-work order for the 80% complete Revolution offshore wind project. Public Citizen has already challenged Trump’s sordid shakedown efforts involving the phony stop-work order of the offshore Empire wind project, where the Trump White House literally took credit for forcing New York to ‘cave’ to Trump’s demand for two new natural gas pipelines.

“This unlawful stop work order for Revolution is part of the same illegal shakedown to force New England states to support the same two natural gas pipelines that will lock in expensive, polluting natural gas that will do nothing to lower energy bills, but instead will guarantee New England be hooked to increasingly expensive gas.”
