Trump Flying Tonight from White House to Trump Virginia Golf Club for Another Million Dollar-a-Plate Candlelight Dinner SuperPAC Fundraiser
White House, Trump Should Release Guest List of Big Money Donors
WASHINGTON, D.C. – President Donald Trump and the White House should release the guest list for the Million-Dollar-a-Plate candlelight dinner the president is hosting at his private golf club in Leesburg, Virginia tonight.
The President’s daily schedule released this morning shows he will be flying from the White House to the Trump Golf Club in Leesburg, Virginia, where: “The President participates in a MAGA Inc. Dinner.” Since being sworn in as President in January, Trump has hosted at least three Million Dollar-a-Plate candlelight dinners at his Mar-a-Lago estate to raise funds for his SuperPAC, MAGA Inc.
Attendees could be government favor-seekers such as federal contractors or the CEOs of companies under federal investigation – or who were until the Trump administration closed the investigations or dropped the enforcement actions.
“This exorbitant level of payment for presidential access raises serious concerns about the possibility of corruption by candlelight,” said Jon Golinger, democracy advocate for Public Citizen. “The American people have a right to know who will be there tonight and whether the Million Dollar Dinner menu includes a deep dish of juicy government contracts, a side of tasty tax breaks, or a sweet dessert of ending investigations and enforcement actions against their companies.”
“These pay-to-play dinners are only possible because of Citizens United and shows how desperately we need to fix it,” Golinger added. “These dinners demolish the fiction of independent expenditures that the Supreme Court relied on 15 years ago to justify its Citizens United decision, which abolished reasonable limits on campaign spending.”
