Trump EO Aims to Disenfranchise Millions
New executive order issued Tuesday attacks voting rights
WASHINGTON, D.C. — President Donald Trump issued a harmful executive order Tuesday that requires “government-issued proof of U.S. citizenship on its voter registration forms,” according to the White House.
Public Citizen Co-President Lisa Gilbert called the order an attack on voting rights.
“This is a blatant attack on democracy and an authoritarian power grab,” said Gilbert. “Donald Trump’s executive order would compromise our election systems, suppress the votes of millions of Americans, especially voters of color, and pave the way for still more Trumpian false claims of election fraud.
