Toyota Cajoling Employees into Lobbying Against Climate Action
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Toyota management urged its employees to advocate for repeal of Advanced Clean Cars II, a rule that allows California and other states to set stronger emissions standards, according to leaked emails published last week by Politico.
In response, Adam Zuckerman, senior clean vehicles campaigner with Public Citizen’s Climate Program, issued the following statement:
“Toyota should stop cajoling its employees into lobbying for dirtier air. It is fitting that the same company whose U.S. plants are not unionized is now weaponizing its workforce to advocate against standards that protect our health and planet. Toyota should spend less time pushing its employees to do its dirty work and more time building the cleaner cars that consumers want now.”
