Statement on Upcoming 12th Failed Vote on Republican Continuing Resolution

WASHINGTON, D.C. — This afternoon, the Senate is expected to vote for a 12th time on HR 5371, the Continuing Appropriations and Extensions Act, 2026. The bill has failed in the Senate 11 previous times: Oct. 20, Oct. 16, Oct. 15, Oct. 14, Oct. 9, Oct, 8, Oct. 6, Oct. 3, Oct. 1, Sept. 30 and Sept. 19.

Public Citizen, Service Employees International Union, National Education Association, People For the American Way, Americans for Tax Fairness, Working Families Power, Community Change Action, Indivisible, and Care in Action issued the following statement in response:

“On the 22nd day of the government shutdown, Senate Republicans are holding show votes, House Republicans won’t show up for work and the President wants to see shows in his new ballroom.

“In 10 days, more than 24 million working Americans will see their health care costs double and Republican leadership is living in la la land. Reasonable Republicans and Democrats know we must address the health care crisis and this bill fails — for the 12th time — to do that.

“Simply put, everyone knows the bill that ends the shutdown will not be this one. Senators should vote against the Republican CR and negotiate a deal to protect health care and fund the government.”
