Snyder vetoes bill to allow schools to erect advertising billboards

Gov. Rick Snyder today vetoed legislation that would have allowed billboards to be built on school property and increased the total number of billboards permitted in Michigan.
Snyder expressed concern Senate Bill 953 would, “put Michigan in jeopardy of losing millions of dollars in federal highway funding at a time when we must continue to aggressively invest in our infrastructure.”
Snyder also vetoed a second bill, which would remove training and certification requirements for individuals selling morel mushrooms to food establishments.
The bill to allow billboards on public school property along state-managed roadways, proposed by Sen. Tom Casperson, R-Escanaba, cleared the Legislature in December
