Senate Republicans Should Reject Blanche Outright
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Yesterday evening, the Senate Judiciary Committee postponed a vote on Todd Blanche’s nomination to lead the Department of Justice (DOJ).
Lisa Gilbert, co-president of Public Citizen, issued the following statement in response:
“Todd Blanche is unequivocally unfit to serve as Attorney General. He has enabled corruption at the highest level of government by not only permitting, but actively encouraging lawlessness, conflicts of interest, and the prioritization of the interests of the president over the interests of the American people Rather than facilitate justice, he has obstructed it at every turn. He has collaborated with Trump to make a mockery of the Justice Department, weaponizing it for personal and political gain. With no respect for law enforcement, it is unthinkable to confirm Blanche to the highest law enforcement office in the land. His DOJ is unwilling to make clear in writing that the slush fund and prohibiting audits of Trump is off the table.
“In postponing the vote, it is clear that Blanche’s nomination is hanging by a thread. Trump should concede defeat and revoke Blanche’s nomination immediately. His personal fixer must not helm the DOJ.”
