Senate Must Follow the House and Pass a Clean Extension of ACA Subsidies
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, several moderate House Republicans joined House Democrats to pass a clean extension of ACA subsidies that expired at the end of the 2025. The expired subsidies mean increased health care premiums for millions of Americans and around 4 million people will likely lose insurance.
Lisa Gilbert, co-president of Public Citizen, issued the following statement:
“Trump and Republican leaders in Congress did their best to ensure that ACA enhanced subsidies would expire at the end of December. However, some front-line Republican members of the House joined Democrats to vote to help the millions of Americans facing higher costs and massive increases to their health care premiums.
“It is past time for the Senate to pass a clean extension of the credits without delay. Majority Leader Thune should schedule a final vote on a clean 3 year extension and all senators should vote to pass it. Extending the subsidies is just one small step in the efforts to reform America’s deeply flawed health care system, but it is an important effort to help address skyrocketing insurance premiums for millions of Americans.”
