Senate Introduces Critical Legislation to Protect Safety Regulations, Modernize Rulemaking
WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) today introduced the Senate version of the Stop Corporate Capture Act. Lisa Gilbert, co-president of Public Citizen, released the following statement:
“The Stop Corporate Capture Act is the marquee legislation to improve our regulatory system. The bill aims directly at the corporate capture of our rulemaking process by enshrining Chevron deference into law and overturning the overreaching Supreme Court rulings that put judicial preferences above agency expertise.
“It also brings transparency to the regulatory review process and makes it a federal crime for corporations to submit false information, among other things. The Stop Corporate Capture Act is essential law for the future of our health, safety, environment, workers, and more.
“Public Citizen is thrilled by Senator Warren’s introduction of the legislation in the Senate, and we join with her and Representative Jayapal in pushing for the bill’s swift passage in both chambers. We strongly support this bill.”
