AUSTIN, Texas – Ken Paxton today became the first Texas attorney general to be impeached. The overwhelming vote of 121-23 in the Texas House of Representatives means Paxton has been immediately suspended from his duties until the conclusion of an impeachment trial in the state Senate.
Adrian Shelley, Texas director of Public Citizen, issued the following statement:
“Positions of public trust come with certain obligations, including a duty not to misuse the office or commit crimes. No one is above the law.”
