Public Citizen Commends Senate Passage of Continuing Resolution to Fund Government Through Dec. 3
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today the U.S. Senate voted 65-35 in favor of a continuing resolution to fund the government through Dec. 3, 2021. Lisa Gilbert, vice president of Public Citizen, released the following statement:
“As the negotiations to move the critical Build Back Better (BBB) agenda continue, we are happy that Congress was able to avoid a government shutdown by passing the continuing resolution (CR). With so much at stake on core policy goals moving in BBB on climate, healthcare, jobs, and more, as well as the real-life consequences of shutting down the government during a pandemic, failing to pass the CR would have been disastrous.
“With its passage, we look ahead to the end-of-year fight on appropriations. At that point, we hope to see bills with enough funding to fund essential programs and without poison pills that favor corporations move to completion.”
