Public Citizen Announces New Director of its Congress Watch Division

David J. Arkush Returns to Public Citizen to Lead Government Watchdog Program

WASHINGTON, D.C. – David J. Arkush, an experienced public interest lawyer with a background in consumer issues and appellate law, is the new director of Public Citizen’s Congress Watch division, the nonprofit advocacy organization announced Tuesday.

As director of Congress Watch, Arkush will champion consumer interests before Congress, lobby to strengthen health, safety and environmental protections, and push for comprehensive campaign finance reform, among other issues. Arkush, most recently a staff attorney at Public Justice, started Monday.

Public Citizen President Joan Claybrook praised Arkush’s knowledge of the issues. His experience includes a stint at Public Citizen and a teaching fellowship at Georgetown University Law Center’s Appellate Litigation Program.

“We’re excited David is bringing his energy and talents to Public Citizen,” Claybrook said. “He will fight passionately for the public interest.”

Arkush, a graduate of Harvard Law School, who also holds a master’s of law from Georgetown, served as a Fuchsberg Fellow in the Public Citizen Litigation Group in 2004.

“I’m thrilled to be part of an organization that works so effectively on some of the most important issues we all face – promoting health and safety, holding the powerful accountable and making government work for people,” Arkush said. “At the end of the day, it’s extremely rewarding to know you’ve played a part in improving people’s lives.”
