Not Above the Law Coalition: The Walls Are Closing In On Donald Trump

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, members of the bipartisan Not Above the Law coalition released the following joint statement after the Manhattan District Attorney charged the Trump Organization and chief financial officer Allen Weisselberg with tax-related crimes:

“The walls are closing in on Donald Trump and his associates. Today’s indictment is the first step to holding Trump accountable for his decades-long history of corruption and impropriety.

“Donald Trump must be held accountable for his crimes and many abuses of power, including any carried out from the White House. Congress must also act quickly to pass reforms to protect our democracy and safeguard the rule of law from future presidents who abuse their power and profit from the presidency.

“In the United States, no one is above the law.”

For four years, the Not Above The Law coalition held Donald Trump accountable, mobilizing millions of Americans to protect the Mueller investigation, calling for Trump’s impeachment, and defending the basic principle that no president is above the law.

Coalition members supporting this statement include: Stand Up America, Public Citizen, Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW), American Oversight, Project On Government Oversight (POGO), Mainers for Accountable Leadership, MoveOn Civic Action, Equal Justice Society, DemCast USA.
