New Public Citizen Fact Sheet Corrects Trump Drug Pricing Deceptions from State of the Union
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Following Trump’s State of the Union Address on Tuesday, Public Citizen released a fact sheet combating Trump’s numerous misleading statements about his so-called drug pricing plan. The fact sheet corrects various fictions invented by the Trump administration, on U.S. drug pricing and affordability and TrumpRx.
Key points include:
-
Trump’s secretive most-favored nation agreements are expected to have little impact on U.S. drug pricing and affordability. Drug companies and Trump’s own head of Medicare and Medicaid have admitted as much.
- President Trump and congressional Republicans gave prescription drug corporations an $8+ billion payout out of the pockets of taxpayers and cancer patients.
- For most people, TrumpRx will not provide any relief from high drug prices. Others may be tricked into paying more for prescription drugs.
Public Citizen Access to Medicines Director Peter Maybarduk issued the following statement:
“The bottom line is that a quarter of Americans struggle to afford their prescription drugs and the vast majority of these people will not be helped by TrumpRx or other Trump Administration initiatives, despite the claims Trump made during his State of the Union address.
We need reforms to dramatically lower drug prices for everyone, not backroom deals with Big Pharma and websites with exaggerated claims and limited reach.”
