New OMB Memo Fast-tracks Deregulation, Is Propaganda
WASHINGTON, D.C. – The White House Office of Management and Budget (OMB) has released a new memo titled “Streamlining the Review of Deregulatory Actions,” calling on federal agencies to bolster their deregulatory efforts – and quickly. The memo comes in the wake of a string of deregulatory executive orders and memoranda published by the Trump administration that aim to upend the federal regulatory process and gut public protections.
Elizabeth Skerry, regulatory policy associate for Public Citizen, released the following statement:
“OMB’s memo is pure deregulatory propaganda. It rests on the irrational proposition that all deregulation is good for America. It calls on agencies to do the Trump administration’s bidding by finding ways to quickly repeal safeguards regardless of their benefits to consumers, workers, the economy, and the environment, and it rejects public participation and consultation in the process.
“Swift deregulation is a ‘highway to the danger zone,’ a race to empower corporations to pollute, rip off, and endanger us. The reality is that regulatory protections make America stronger, healthier and cleaner and need to be enhanced, not rolled back.”
