Groups to Mylan: EpiPen Discounts for Some Consumers Not Enough, True Price Reduction and Federal Reforms Needed
Public Citizen and Pittsburgh Groups to Deliver More Than 600,000 Petitions to Mylan Corporate Headquarters
WHAT: On Tuesday, Aug. 30, activists will deliver petitions from more than 600,000 outraged consumers and allergy sufferers to Mylan’s corporate headquarters in Canonsburg, Pa., demanding that Mylan lower the price of EpiPens, which the company raised by more than 400 percent.
Advocacy organizations including Public Citizen, Western Pennsylvania Coalition for Single-Payer Healthcare, the Thomas Merton Center and the Consumer Health Coalition will hold a press conference highlighting that Mylan’s attempts to quell public outrage with discounts and overpriced generics is not enough.
On the contrary, the petitioning groups will rally and argue that the company should truly lower the price. The groups also will call for legislative and regulatory reforms to stop the pharmaceutical industry price gouging and ensure universal access to lifesaving medicines.
The signatures were gathered by public interest organizations including Public Citizen, MoveOn.org Civic Action, The Other 98%, Social Security Works, MomsRising, Democracy For America, Sum of Us and Consumers Union.
