ICE Makes Our Country More Dangerous, Not Less
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Yesterday, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents fatally shot Renee Nicole Good in Minneapolis while conducting a raid in her community.
Lisa Gilbert, co-president of Public Citizen, issued the following statement in response:
“The deadly violence and terror wielded by ICE and the wider Trump administration against immigrant communities has once again resulted in tragedy.
“Renee Nicole Good should be alive today. We demand an immediate independent investigation and full consequences. Lawmakers must additionally fulfill their constitutional duty by holding ICE and DHS accountable for placing communities in danger.
“Since Donald Trump launched his first campaign for president, demonizing immigrants has been a central part of his political playbook. In the months since he returned to office, immigrant communities across the country have been forced to live in constant fear of increasingly aggressive actions from ICE and DHS.
“This is an issue that affects all Americans. No one in America should walk the streets in fear of being disappeared by masked agents, shot for lawful protesting, or face intimidation and violence for being a good neighbor.”
