House Committee Chairs to Take Subpoena Fights Directly to Court

Lisa Gilbert, Vice President of Legislative Affairs, Public Citizen

Note: Today the U.S. House of Representatives will vote on a resolution authorizing the chairs of committees to go directly to court to enforce their subpoenas for information requested from the Trump administration.

This action is long overdue. The Congress has faced unprecedented obstruction of its constitutional duty to act as a check on the executive branch, and there must be an escalated response to this ongoing problem. We applaud Chair Jerry Nadler of the Judiciary Committee and the House for moving forward to vote on this resolution authorizing the committees to enforce their subpoenas.
