Hegseth Flaunts Potential CNN Takeover to Change Coverage Critical of Trump Policies
WASHINGTON, D.C. – President Trump’s War Secretary Pete Hegseth expressed disapproval of CNN’s coverage of the administration’s illegal war on Iran, and ended his criticism by saying “the sooner David Ellison takes over that network, the better.” This is in reference to Paramount Skydance CEO David Ellison’s bid to take over the network.
In response, Public Citizen co-president Robert Weissman issued the following statement:
“The Trump regime flaunting billionaire takeover of independent media to control thought in our democracy is one of the most horrifying manifestations of an Orwellian society to date.
“But it’s also a helpful tell.
“It’s rare for us to say, but thank you, Pete Hegseth. You have made the definitive case for blocking a Paramount takeover of Warner Brothers. There’s no secret about this: the Paramount takeover of Warner Brothers properties will lead to a silencing of views critical of the Trump regime – in fact, that’s a primary purpose of the merger proposal. This is why media concentration is so worrisome. Given that the federal review process appears rigged, it is imperative that state authorities act to block this merger.”
