Feeling the Momentum for Medicare for All, Coalition Launches to Keep Corporate Greed Entrenched

Statements from Public Citizen Experts

Note: Following congressional hearings and growing support among lawmakers and the public for Medicare for All, a group of corporate libertarian organizations, many of which are funded by the Koch brothers, has launched a new coalition, NoSocializedMedicine.Org.

“This is an all-star coalition of greed protectors that should rename itself ‘The Coalition to Protect Corporate Profits.’ They know the American people are fighting for Medicare for All because they are tired of rising out-of-pocket costs, unaffordable medicine and the fear of losing everything because of one illness. This new coalition will spend huge sums of money to lie to the American people about what Medicare for All is and would do, which is to ensure that every American is covered. They will fail. The American people know that Medicare isn’t socialism and neither is Medicare for All, which simply would improve Medicare and expand it to everyone in the U.S.”

– Eagan Kemp, health care policy advocate

“Here are the facts: Congress is about to hold a third hearing in three months on Medicare for All, this one in the powerful Ways and Means Committee. Members of Congress, including high-ranking Democrats like Reps. Lloyd Doggett, Ben Ray Luján and John Yarmuth, are continuing to sign on as co-sponsors of Medicare for All, and the public pressure for this reform is mounting. The Koch brothers and other corporate profiteers are feeling the pressure. This new coalition is more of the same from two billionaires and their moneyed buddies who don’t want to pay their fair share in taxes.”
