Fearing Losses in Court, Trump Administration Memo Aims to Deter Legal Attacks
WASHINGTON — The Trump administration on Thursday issued a memorandum calling on the Department of Justice to ask federal judges to apply Federal Rule of Civil Procedure 65(c) and to require groups that sue the federal government to be financially responsible if a trial court issues an injunction that is reversed on appeal. The Trump administration currently faces more than 90 lawsuits alleging unlawful activity since taking office on January 20th. In response, Lisa Gilbert, co-President of Public Citizen, issued the following statement:
“The administration’s memorandum is an attempt to scare people away from enforcing their rights through the court system, as Donald Trump and Elon Musk work to dismantle the federal government. People should not be deterred from challenging the administration’s unlawful lawlessness.”
