Dismissal of Comey, James Cases Is a Victory for the Rule of Law
WASHINGTON, D.C. – A federal judge has dismissed criminal cases against both former FBI Director James Comey and New York Attorney General Letitia James due to the illegal appointment of Trump’s appointed prosecutor, Lindsey Halligan.
Lisa Gilbert, co-president of Public Citizen, issued the following statement in response:
“The persecution of perceived political opponents by a wanna-be dictator took a hit today. Lindsay Halligan was illegally installed as interim U.S. Attorney and because of that the courts have concluded that her prosecutions of both former FBI Director James Comey and New York Attorney General Letitia James have no legal basis. This is a victory for the rule of law.
“For too long, the Trump administration has undermined our system of checks and balances, flouted the legal system, and ignored the Constitution. This accountability is vital and long overdue.”
