Data Centers: Trump’s Latest Personal Grift
WASHINGTON, D.C. — In a Truth Social post today, President Trump mocked those who oppose the rapid proliferation of data centers across the U.S.
Robert Weissman, co-president of Public Citizen, issued the following statement:
“The same president who said ‘I love the inflation’ and that he ‘couldn’t care less’ if peace negotiations with Iran failed, is now lecturing Americans to ‘let Data Reign.’
“Once again, the mad king is wildly out of step with the American people. And it’s no mystery why: Trump’s family is invested in data centers and his Big Tech allies are greasing the administration to subsidize and enable the massive data center buildout. It’s all a big grift for Trump.
“But not for the American people, who are revolting against higher electricity rates, siphoning of water resources, noise pollution and tax subsidies for the world’s largest corporations. Above all, Americans refuse to accept plutocrats imposing unwanted data centers to power AI technologies with uncertain benefits but which are imposing real harms and threatening far worse.”
