CFPB Needs Leaders Like Leandra English
Statement of Lisa Gilbert, Vice President of Legislative Affairs, Public Citizen
Note: Today, Leandra English, deputy director of the U.S. Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), said she will end her legal bid to direct the agency and resign next week, citing President Donald Trump’s nomination of a permanent director.
Public Citizen commends Ms. English’s public service protecting consumers from unfair practices by financial institutions. We laud her courageous stand in litigation against the Trump administration in an effort to uphold key transition elements of the 2010 Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act. Now, Public Citizen will demand that the U.S. Senate confirm a nominee with the same commitment to consumer protection. Americans deserve no less.
