Ballroom Backfire

Trump scheme to convince Congress to authorize White House Ballroom Project, and make taxpayers pay a billion dollars for it, fails spectacularly

WASHINGTON, D.C. — After massive blowback from all directions, reports indicate Senate Republicans are moving to drop White House-drafted legislation from the Department of Homeland Security funding package that would have legally authorized Trump’s Ballroom project and forced American taxpayers to pay a billion dollars for it.

Senate Democrats are unified in opposing the Billion Dollar Ballroom Boondoggle and a growing number of Senate Republicans came out against it over the last few days.

“This massive ballroom backfire shows the American people are revolting against Trump’s corrupt and self-serving vanity projects,” said Jon Golinger, Public Citizen democracy advocate. “We’ll continue to investigate and expose the corruption behind this ballroom boondoggle and fight any other attempts to sneak it through Congress.”

On June 5, the D.C. Court of Appeals is scheduled to hear arguments and decide whether to uphold a district court’s ruling that the ballroom project is illegal and most stop construction unless and until Congress votes to authorize it.
