Auto Industry Crisis Presents Opportunity, Public Citizen’s Joan Claybrook to Tell Lawmakers

Public Citizen President to Testify Before Congressional Panel on Tuesday

WHAT:  Joan Claybrook, president of Public Citizen, will testify before the House Select Committee on Energy Independence and Global Warming on the proposed auto bailout. Claybrook, who was administrator of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration from 1977 to 1981, will explain how the industry’s crisis presents an opportunity to bolster its long-term viability and help the environment and safety at the same time. She will offer recommendations ranging from a strong oversight board to requirements for vehicles to achieve much greater fuel efficiency.
