At Nearly 100 Events Nationwide, Americans Call for ‘Shutdown Showdown’ in Defense of Our Health Care
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Just days after the federal government shut down, advocates and community leaders across the country organized nearly 100 events condemning Congressional Republicans’ refusal to consider budget proposals to fund the government unless they include dramatic and deadly cuts to health care programs that Americans rely on.
At the events, attendees will hear from elected officials, community leaders, impacted people, and other speakers about the real human cost of the Republicans’ billionaires-first agenda, and call on Congressional Democrats to continue fighting to secure a budget that protects health care and the Congressional power of the purse.
This weekend of events comes after a coalition of advocacy organizations including Fair Share America, Indivisible, MoveOn, Public Citizen, Working Families Power, People’s Action, Women’s March and many others held a mass mobilization call on Wednesday with grassroots activists to discuss the shutdown and how people can organize collectively to support and protect our communities.
