Coleman v. Department of State

Jesse Coleman, an investigative journalist and researcher, submitted a FOIA request to the State Department in December 18, 2018, seeking the calendar and resumé for Melissa Simpson, who currently serves as the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Energy Transformation at the State Department’s Bureau of Energy Resources.  Throughout 2019, Mr. Coleman received no information from the State Department as to the date on which it would respond to his FOIA request. In January 2020, the State Department informed Mr. Coleman that it would not process his FOIA request until June 2022. Mr. Coleman, represented by Public Citizen Litigation Group, then filed suit seeking disclosure of the requested records. After we sued, the State Department produced the requested records.
