Texas – Austin Sustainable Food Internship
At Public Citizen’s Texas office, we work primarily on environmental issues, with a focus on preserving a livable climate by encouraging state and local action to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. We work to encourage a rapid transition to clean, renewable energy, increased deployment of public transportation, transportation electrification, electrification of home heating and other appliances, and a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions from the products we use and the waste we produce. In addition to climate change, environmental justice is a strong theme that connects our work —we advocate for reducing air pollution, especially in the most vulnerable communities, and establishing policies and programs to ensure that everyone can benefit from the transition to a more sustainable way of living.
The Sustainable Food Intern will work with our climate policy and outreach specialist, who is based in Austin, to advance efforts to increase climate friendly food choices – including increasing the availability of plant-based foods at institutions and other locations, and encouraging restaurants to utilize reusable and compostable alternatives to single-use plastics, and engaging with related policy efforts at the City of Austin. This will be a great opportunity to get hands-on experience working on climate action. We take great pride in helping students hone their existing skills and develop new skills and interests that will help you in your careers, and help you be a more informed citizen.
