Public Citizen Comments on Part D Restructuring Proposal
On June 6, 2019, Public Citizen commented on a proposal to lower Medicare Part D costs, issued by Ways and Means Committee Chairman Richard E. Neal and Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Frank Pallone, Jr., along with Ranking Members Kevin Brady and Greg Walden. Public Citizen expressed concern about the limited scope of the draft legislation, which aims to lower costs through tweaks to the current system and overlooks the far greater structural challenges posed by exorbitant drug prices. Public Citizen urges all members of Congress to address American’s top congressional priority by advancing meaningful legislation to lower prescription drug prices, including the Medicare Negotiation and Competitive Licensing Act of 2019 (H.R. 1046).
