First Opinion article in STAT News: RFK Jr. says medical journals are ‘corrupt.’ As former NEJM editors, we know he’s wrong.
In an opinion article published June 30, 2025 in STAT News, two former editors-in-chief of the New England Journal of Medicine (NEJM) and Dr. Robert Steinbrook, the director of the Health Research Group at Public Citizen and a former NEJM editor, say that Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is wrong about his attacks on ‘corrupt’ medical journals and that his “fixes” will only exacerbate the problems he seeks to address.
