Mike Salemi

Legal Director, Climate Program


Michael G. Salemi (he/him) is the legal director of Public Citizen’s Climate Accountability Program, where he helps to lead Public Citizen’s efforts to hold Big Oil companies accountable for their climate crimes. Mike has dedicated much of his legal career to seeking to hold corporations accountable as part of building an economy with shared prosperity and greater equality. Mike joined Public Citizen after more than 14 years of public service in the federal government. Immediately before joining Public Citizen, Mike held various roles at the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, including as Acting Enforcement Director and as Deputy Assistant Director for Fair Lending for the Office of Supervision Policy. Mike has extensive experience managing strategic litigation and complex investigations. While at the CFPB, Mike supervised teams conducting and resolving investigations through consent orders or through contested actions resulting in billions of dollars in consumer relief ordered.

Mike received his undergraduate degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and graduated magna cum laude from Loyola University Chicago School of Law. Mike is admitted to the bars of the District of Columbia, Illinois, and Maryland.
