Liza Barrie is a strategist and campaigner. Before joining Public Citizen in late 2020, she spent more than two decades leading communications, advocacy, and partnerships at UNICEF. Throughout that period Liza strengthened UNICEF engagement with civil society, dealt with governments, handled media crisis, and visited endless community‐based projects at the grassroots of countless countries in Africa, Asia, and Latin America. Liza has been an advocate for children’s and women’s rights, including for families affected by HIV and AIDS. She obtained a master’s degree in journalism from Columbia University and a bachelor’s degree in East Asian studies from Barnard College. Liza worked in China for more than ten years and speaks excellent Mandarin.
