Doug Pasternak

Research Director for the Trump Accountability Project


Doug Pasternak is the research director of Public Citizen’s Trump Accountability Project, focusing on waste, fraud, abuse, corruption, and conflicts-of-interest revolving around President Donald Trump and his administration. He is a former award-winning investigative reporter. At U.S. News & World Report magazine, he was a two-time finalist for the National Magazine Award, the magazine industry’s highest honor. As an investigative producer at NBC Nightly News his stories included hidden camera investigations, and he won two Emmy Awards for “outstanding investigative reporting” in the business and financial reporting category. He later led investigative teams on three Congressional oversight committees in both the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives, including the House Science, Space & Technology Committee, House Transportation & Infrastructure Committee, and the U.S. Senate’s Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations, part of the Senate’s Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee.

On the House Transportation Committee, he spearheaded the committee’s investigation into the design, development, and certification of Boeing’s 737 MAX aircraft, after two crashes resulted in the tragic death of 346 people. His efforts led to bipartisan aviation safety reforms. He also directed scores of other high-profile congressional investigations, worked as a private investigator for a business intelligence firm in Maryland, and has been a guest on CNN, C-SPAN, MSNBC, FOX News, NPR, and PBS’s FRONTLINE, among others. His investigations have resulted in policy reforms, government savings, and public accountability. He has also frequently spoken publicly about investigative reporting, congressional oversight, and public accountability providing training seminars and lectures to government officials, congressional staff, and hundreds of students at multiple universities.
