Daniel Sherwood Sotelino
General Counsel
Daniel joined Public Citizen as General Counsel in December, 2025. He is passionate about democracy, the environment, and the rule of law. Daniel advises PC on a wide range of operational issues ranging from communications, compliance, and contracts to employment, enterprise risk, and intellectual property.
He came to PC after over a decade as in-house counsel for The Nature Conservancy, where he was recognized by colleagues for his can-do, collaborative, and efficient approach. In addition, he has worked as an independent attorney on white collar crime, carbon trading, and environmental advocacy, and was an Assistant Instructor at The University of Texas at Austin and Vermont Law School. He has written articles for Environmental Law Reporter and World of Music Journal.
Daniel has been commuting primarily by bicycle since 2002. He is proud to have completed cycling centuries and an Olympic triathlon. He also enjoys songwriting and has recorded a few albums.
Daniel is a member of the Bars of the District of Columbia and the State of California. He is a graduate of Vermont Law School (JD, ‘09), The University of Texas at Austin (MM, ’06), and Swarthmore College (BA, ’01).
