Daniel Soria

Daniel Soria (he/him) organizes students at Public Citizen to defend democracy and fight back against authoritarian attacks on civil liberties, immigrant communities, and higher education. He builds the coalitions, trains the leaders, and develops the campaign infrastructure that turns student outrage into sustained power.

Daniel came to Public Citizen with 7 years of organizing experience. He co-founded the Student Civil Liberties Union in San Diego, growing it from a small core of campus organizers into a county-wide network of student leaders spanning high schools, community colleges, and universities. Under his leadership, SCLU trained 60+ dedicated youth organizers, secured a Disabled Student Resource Center, and helped pass landmark civil liberties legislation at the county level. When the federal government began targeting immigrant and international students, SCLU fought back- forcing UC San Diego to sever its decade-long partnership with agencies harassing immigrant students, building sanctuary networks across San Diego communities, and winning a functional legal services hotline for immigrant students.

Before founding SCLU, Daniel supported immigrant survivors of domestic violence at a VAWA legal clinic, interned with the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee, and the U.S. Attorney’s Office on prosecutions involving domestic violence and sex offenses. He holds a B.A. in Political Science from UC San Diego and is bilingual in English and Spanish. He writes plays and articles on organizing theory and movement strategy on Substack.
