A’Ishah Johnson
Workers’ Health and Safety Advocate
A’Ishah Johnson is the Workers’ Health and Safety Advocate for Public Citizen’s Congress Watch division, where she leads federal advocacy to establish the nation’s first OSHA heat standard and strengthen protections against other emerging workplace hazards. Her portfolio includes OSHA policy, whistleblower protections under Section 11(c) of the OSH Act, hazardous chemical exposure, federal appropriations, and algorithmic workplace surveillance.
A public health practitioner with experience spanning the executive and legislative branches, A’Ishah served in the Biden-Harris Administration, where she helped advance environmental justice priorities under Executive Order 14096 and supported oversight of major federal investments under the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and the Inflation Reduction Act. At the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, she regulated antimicrobial products in commerce. She also served with the House Education and the Workforce Committee, focusing on health policy, labor policy, and congressional oversight.
In addition to her policy work, she has co-authored peer-reviewed research examining extreme heat as a maternal and child health equity issue. She holds a B.S. in Microbiology with a minor in Chemistry, an MPH from LSU Health Sciences Center, is Lean Six Sigma certified, and is a Doctor of Public Health (DrPH) candidate at California Baptist University.
