Statement: Dallas Ordinance Will Help Protect Communities From Concrete and Asphalt Plants
Dallas’ amended concrete and asphalt batch plant ordinance will benefit communities
DALLAS – Today, Dallas City Council approved a zoning code amendment that will remove the administrative and by-right approval processes currently in place for temporary and permanent concrete batch and asphalt plants and instead require a Specific Use Permit (SUP) in all zoning categories. The facilities, which release pollution including particulate matter and crystalline silicate that is hazardous to human health, have often been located in vulnerable communities.

“No one should have to live near a concrete batch plant. They are noisy, dirty, and release harmful air pollution. The new Specific Use Permit for concrete and asphalt batch plants will require a public hearing at the City Plan Commission and City Council. This hearing will give Dallas residents an opportunity to voice their concerns about the siting of these plants in and around their neighborhoods.”
