Regardless of Planning Commission’s Decision, Construction of Trump’s Vanity Arch is Illegal

WASHINGTON D.C. — In a new court filing in Lemmon v. Trump, the Trump Administration announced that it plans to begin construction of a gigantic arch on Memorial Circle immediately after the National Capital Planning Commission greenlights the project, which is expected to happen on November 5. Public Citizen Litigation Group represents the plaintiffs in Lemmon v. Trump.

Statement from Wendy Liu, an attorney with Public Citizen Litigation Group and counsel for the plaintiffs in this case:

“The Trump administration’s intention to rush ahead does not alter the arch’s fundamental illegality. Congress has not authorized the arch. Unless and until it does so, construction of this project is unlawful, regardless of what the NCPC decides on November 5.”
