Open Court Proceedings and Challenges to Protective Orders
Docket Number:
96-6264
Case Description:

This case concerns public access to McCarthy-era records of a grand jury that heard testimony from Richard Nixon and others concerning Alger Hiss and other suspected communists. The records had been sealed under the court rule requiring that grand jury proceedings be kept secret. Although we lost this case, we were successful in releasing the records through a later case. Read about that case here.
