Public Citizen v. Department of Homeland Security (workers contracts)

In September 2017, Public Citizen sent a request under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) to U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), a component of the Department of Homeland Security, concerning certain employment contracts for foreign workers that are submitted to USCIS for its review. USCIS failed to respond to the request for over seven months. On May 3, 2018, we filed a lawsuit seeking disclosure of the requested records.

After the suit was filed, USCIS produced hundreds of pages of documents relating to the policies used to evaluate contracts, as well as a sample of employment contracts that American companies used for foreign nurses. The parties agreed to settle the case in December 2018.
